Ta Chi Nhu Peak (2,979m) is the 7th highest mountain in Vietnam. Famous for its ethereal sea of clouds and carpets of purple Chi Pau flowers, it's an ideal trekking destination for those who want to immerse themselves in the pristine beauty of Northwest Vietnam.
From October to March, a sea of white clouds blankets the valleys, creating a magnificent scene like a paradise. Around September and October, the mountain slopes are dyed purple by the wild Chi Pau flowers, creating a vibrant natural landscape.
The climb is about 6-7km (one way), crossing barren hills and primeval forests. It usually takes about 3-4 hours each way, depending on your fitness level. The challenge level is moderate, suitable for those with good physical fitness.
You can take a bus or drive your own car to Nghia Lo and then to the center of Tram Tau. The Nghia Lo - Tram Tau road is quite narrow and winding, with many extremely dangerous hairpin bends. Therefore, if traveling by motorbike, you need to have very steady hands and a good mindset. After arriving in Tram Tau, you will need to travel to Mo Chi and then rent a motorbike to ride to Xa Ho commune (the starting point for the climb). The road is steep and rocky, requiring a skilled driver.
To be able to see the clouds at the right time, many people choose to go at night to arrive around 11 PM or 12 AM. Then they will rent accommodation right in Tram Tau to be ready for the trekking trip the next morning.
You should hire a porter to guide you, help carry heavy equipment, and prepare food at the campsite. You can find contact information directly on mountain climbing communities. The Ta Chi Nhu route is not easy at all; it is extremely challenging. Therefore, you need to prepare yourself physically and mentally for the trip and should go in a group.
