Fansipan (or Phan Xi Păng) is the highest mountain in Vietnam and the entire Indochina region, currently reaching an official altitude of 3,147.3 meters above sea level. Known as the "Roof of Indochina," this mountain is located in the Hoang Lien Son mountain range, forming a natural boundary between the provinces of Lao Cai and Lai Chau, about 9 km southwest of the town of Sa Pa.
Visitors can choose one of the following two routes depending on their fitness level and preferences:
- Cable car: You can use the Guinness World Record-breaking 3-wire cable car system at Sun World Fansipan Legend. The trip takes only about 15 minutes, crossing the Muong Hoa valley and pristine forests.
- Trekking: For those who love adventure and challenges. The trek usually lasts 1 to 2 days along routes such as Tram Ton, requiring participants to be in good physical condition and accompanied by a local guide.
Ideal times to visit:
- Rhododendron flowering season (March - May): When thousands of ancient rhododendron trees bloom brilliantly across the cliffs of the Hoang Lien Son forest.
- Cloud hunting season (September - November): Cool weather, little rain, ideal for admiring the fluffy sea of clouds covering the valley.
- Winter (December - February): Temperatures drop sharply, sometimes with frost or snowfall, creating a European-like landscape.
